Dragon boats and Nasi
Mon 13 Jul 2009
27 °C
Another sunny day! After breakfast we all bundled into the 7-seater car that Piet and Anita have hired and drove into the centre of Leiden. We met Karen (Piet & Anita's daughter) on a bridge, and shopped for sandals for Emma and gluten-free bread for Jennifer.
We watched dragon boat racing on the Nieuwe Rijn. In the first race, one of the boats sank soon after the start of the race, but everyone made it safely to shore. The racing was colourful and fun to watch. Each boat had a drummer at the front to beat the time, and someone steering at the back.

We had a relaxing afternoon at home, and Piet and Shirley made Thai Nasi with kroepoeken, peanut crunchie, cucumber, tomato, and fried egg for dinner. Lekker! (Nice!)

After dinner, Emma, Piet and Shirley went back to Piet & Anita's old house to check the emails (there is no internet connection yet at the new house), and on the way they rescued two birds being attacked by cats.
